What should you expect from a Physiotherapist?

Most people have seen a Physiotherapist before; maybe you've had an injury in the past, needed help recovering from some surgery or played Sport where Physiotherapists have been available. Maybe you have a pre-conceived idea of what a good Physiotherapist should offer?

You should! We certainly do!

UP TO DATE

The world of medicine & healthcare is constantly evolving. As a Physio it is essential that you keep up to speed with the latest research. At South Notts Physiotherapy we offer a specialised Home Visit Physiotherapy Service offering up-to-date Physiotherapy directly to the Homes or Care Homes of our patients. We pride ourselves on being up-to-date with the latest information available to us to make sure we can offer the best quality service to our patients. Read some of our patient feedback for yourself HERE.

PERSONALISED

No two people are the same. No two injuries are the same. People respond to pain in different ways; severity, impact, interpretations of pain are different. We all have different goals, different aspirations, different preferences.

A good Physiotherapist should be asking you what it is you want to achieve and helping you reach your goals. A good Physio should be working with you (and your family) to move forwards together.

A Physio shouldn't be telling you what to do but guiding you based on your own aspirations.

EMPOWERING

We can't predict the future. We have an idea of what's realistic based on your medical history but we should always aim to empower our patients to feel more confident, better equipped, better able and motivated to progress.

We work closely with Care Homes in the Nottingham region. Care Homes prioritise safety & rightly so. Once someone has been identified as 'unable to walk' or 'needs a hoist' the Care Staff cannot deviate from this assessment. But people can change. Physiotherapy works based on the theory that the human body can adapt to change, but there's one caveat - YOU HAVE TO ASK! If you want to improve your strength, you have to be doing some strengthening work. If you want to improve your balance, you have to challenge your body to improve. If you don't ask, you won't change.

Physiotherapists should be empowering you to ask your body some questions. With help and guidance it is always possible that your body can adapt to demand and improve.

REGARDLESS OF AGE.

The list of qualities goes on. I believe you will respond better working with someone you trust, someone you have a rapport with, someone who understands your needs, your fears, your anxieties & helps work with you to achieve your goals.
